The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) successfully hosted an engaging Author Talk & Panel Discussion on 20 May 2026 at the BCIS Auditorium, Colombo, centred on the recently published book “From Friendship to Dependency: Analysing Sri Lanka’s Foreign Policymaking Towards China” authored by Dr. Bhagya Senaratne. The event brought together academics, diplomats, policy analysts, students, and distinguished guests for an insightful exploration of Sri Lanka’s evolving foreign policy dynamics and its strategic relationship with China.
The discussion featured an esteemed panel comprising Admiral (Prof.) Jayanath Colombage, former Commander of the Navy and former Ambassador; Rear Admiral (Retd.) Y.N. Jayarathna, maritime analyst and former Chief Hydrographer; and Dr. Pavithra Jayawardena, Head of the Department of International Relations, University of Colombo. The session offered diverse perspectives on geopolitics, regional security, diplomacy, and contemporary international relations.
The event served as a valuable platform for critical dialogue and intellectual exchange, reaffirming BCIS’s commitment to promoting informed discussions on global and regional affairs.
