The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) successfully hosted the 09th Emerging Scholars’ Symposium (ESS) 2026 on 03 September 2026 under the theme “International Relations in an Age of Climate Crisis.”
The Symposium recognised outstanding contributions from emerging scholars, with T.N. Peelikumbura receiving the Best Paper Award for the paper titled “Pads vs. Underwear: Gendered Blind Spots in Climate Disaster Relief.” The Best Presentation Award was presented to H.M.P.G. Siriwardhana for the paper titled “The Role of Cinema in Shaping Climate Discourse: An Analysis of Before the Flood Documentary.”
ESS 2026 provided a valuable platform for emerging scholars to present their research, exchange perspectives, and engage in meaningful academic dialogue on contemporary challenges in International Relations, particularly in the context of the global climate crisis.
BCIS congratulates all the emerging scholars who contributed to the success of ESS 2026 and looks forward to continuing to foster spaces for research, dialogue, and academic exchange.
