Event Recap | Prof. Shelton U. Kodikara Oration 2026

The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) was privileged to host the Prof. Shelton U. Kodikara Oration 2026 on 08 August 2026, bringing together distinguished academics, diplomats, policymakers, researchers, students, and members of the strategic studies community for an evening of insightful discussion on the evolving international order.

The keynote oration was delivered by Professor Amitav Acharya, Distinguished Professor at the School of International Service, American University, Washington, DC, USA, on the theme “Once and the Future World Order: What Comes After US Hegemony?” His lecture offered a compelling analysis of the shifting global balance of power, the emergence of multipolarity, and the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of international politics.

The event was organized by the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies (RCSS) in collaboration with the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS), continuing the legacy of the late Professor Shelton U. Kodikara, whose pioneering contributions laid the foundation for the study of international relations and strategic affairs in Sri Lanka.

The oration provided an engaging platform for intellectual exchange, encouraging participants to reflect on the changing dynamics of global governance, regional security, and the future of the international system. The interactive discussion that followed further enriched the evening, fostering meaningful dialogue among scholars and practitioners.

BCIS extends its sincere appreciation to Professor Amitav Acharya, the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies, and all participants whose presence and contributions made the Prof. Shelton U. Kodikara Oration 2026 a memorable and intellectually enriching occasion.
