The launch of the book titled ‘Sri Lanka, Serendib The Silk Road of The Sea’, authored by Dr. Sanjiva Wijesinha and published by the Perera-Hussein Publishing House, was held on Friday, 22 August 2025 from 05:00p.m. to 06:30p.m. at the BCIS Auditorium (The Olympus). It was attended by academics, members of the press, students, family and friends of the author, Dr Sanjiva Wijesinha.
‘Sri Lanka, Serendib The Silk Road of The Sea’ is an interesting and easy to read book. It is a mixture of personal experience and researched evidence – complements the more academic oriented books that are produced on the silk road and on Indian Ocean trade.
This engaging book about the hitherto little-known subject of Sri Lanka and its important role in the ancient Indian Ocean world and Maritime Silk Route is a fascinating work of creative non-fiction.
Dr. Sanjiva Wijesinha MBBS (Ceylon), MSc (Oxford), FRCS (Edinburgh), FRACGP – acclaimed author, medical journalist, inveterate traveller and quondam army officer, pediatric surgeon, family physician and University Professor – was a member of UNESCO’s Maritime Silk Route Expedition that sailed from Venice to Osaka. The other books authored by Dr. Wijesinha includes Health for Busy People (1990), Health in These Times (1996), Friends (2008), Not Our War (2013), Strangers on the Camino (2014) and Tales from my Island (e-book, 2014).
