The Panel Discussion on ‘Popular Protests and Future of Democracy in Sri Lanka and South Asia’ was held on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Lavender Committee Room/BMICH. The keynote presentation at this Panel Discussion was delivered by Professor Pratap Bhanu Mehta, an eminent South Asian scholar and political thinker. Ambassador S. Palihakkara, former Foreign Secretary, Professor Deepika Udagama, Head of the Department of Law, University of Peradeniya and Dr. Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu, Executive Director of the Centre for Alternatives, were the Panelists. A member of the BCIS Board of Academic Affairs, Prof. Jayadeva Uyangoda moderated the Panel Discussion. This forum provided an opportunity for the participants to reflect on a theme that defines the political complexities of our time in our own society and in the global context.
