The latest BCIS publication titled ‘Sri Lanka’s Defence Policy since Independence and the Shifting Balance of Power in the Indian Ocean’ authored by Prof. Gamini Keerawella, Member of the BCIS Council of Management and Academic Affairs Board, was launched at the BCIS Auditorium on Tuesday, 29 July 2025.
This publication presents a penetrating analysis of the evolution of Sri Lanka’s defence strategy from 1948 to the present day and examines how domestic political developments and changing geopolitical dynamics have influenced the country’s national security policy within the increasingly contested Indian Ocean region.
Admiral Jayanath Colombage RSP, VSV, USP, FNI, former Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy made an introduction to the book, provided a strong contextual description of the Indian Ocean and built on Professor Keerawella’s emphasis on the importance of strategic location.
H. E. Madam Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Chairperson/BCIS, Representatives from the Diplomatic Corps, Academics, Armed Forces personnel and students following International Relations courses at the BCIS attended this event.
