The BCIS Library organized a commemorative event titled “Reading with Mangala” on 22 April 2025, celebrating the enduring legacy of the late Hon. Mangala Samaraweera—a visionary leader remembered not only for his contributions to politics but also for his lifelong passion for literature, international relations, and creative expression. The event marked the official launch of a new library collection comprising books from Mangala Samaraweera’s personal library, generously donated by his family. The donations also extended to the Colombo Public Library and Mr. Stefan Andre Joachim, symbolizing Mangala’s commitment to the free flow of knowledge and learning. The Governor of the Western Province, Hon. Hanif Yusoof, graced the occasion as the Special Guest, adding further significance to the evening and acknowledging Mangala Samaraweera’s contributions to national discourse and democratic engagement. A panel discussion brought together eminent personalities from diverse fields:

The panel reflected Samaraweera’s legacy, with Madam Kumaratunga offering heartfelt insights into his enduring influence on Sri Lanka’s democratic and cultural landscape. Speakers highlighted his unwavering commitment to inclusion, freedom of expression, and public service. The newly unveiled BCIS Library Collection now stands as a lasting tribute to Mangala Samaraweera’s intellectual legacy. It aims to inspire scholars, students, and the broader public to think critically, embrace diversity, and engage meaningfully with global and local issues
