A copy of the BCIS Policy Brief titled: “Environmental Safeguards in Maritime Relations” was handed over to Mr. Asela B. Rekawa, the Chairman of the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) by the Dr. Minna Thaheer. Director of the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS), during a discussion which was held at the MEPA on March 31, 2023.
The General Manager of MEPA, Mr. Jagath Gunasekara and Research officers of the BCIS, Ms. Shayani Jayasinghe and Ms. Maheshi Jayawardena were also present at the above discussion.
This BCIS Policy Brief is a product of the research team of the BCIS. The Policy document highlights key issues related to maritime affairs with a special focus on formulating policies to ensure sustainable and effective use of the oceans, marine resources and marine ecosystems to strengthen economic growth and provides recommendations for national policymaking and awareness raising at a local and global level. It is based on research, discussions and paper presentations by experts on related issues, alongside the guidance of a distinguished advisory panel.
