Jayadeva Uyangoda, (B. A and Ph. D in Political Science). Professor Emeritus, University of Colombo, was Senior Professor of Political Science at University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He retired from University of Colombo in May 2016. In August 2016 to July 2017, he held the Distinguished Chair of Democracy at the Center for the Study of Developing Societies, New Delhi, India.
Professor Uyangoda possesses an extensive record of research and academic publications, locally and internationally. His research and publications have been mainly on Sri Lanka’s ethnic conflict, minority rights, conflict and peace processes, democratization and state reform in Sri Lanka. Several of his books, many book chapters and journal articles published in Sri Lanka and abroad.
Among his key publications are Political Science: A Contemporary Introduction (2018) Political Parties in Sri Lanka: Change and Continuity (2017, Co-Editor), Local Government and Local Democracy in Sri Lanka: Institutional and Social Dimensions (Editor, 2015), Social Research: Philosophical and Methodological Foundations (2015), State Reform in Sri Lanka: Issues, Directions and Perspectives (2013, Editor), Reframing Democracy: Politics of Inclusion and Exclusion in Contemporary Sri Lanka (2012, Co-Editor), Liberal Peace in Question: Politics of State and Market Reform in Sri Lanka (2011, Co-Editor).
He has also held senior administrative positions in the educational sector. He was member of the Council of the University of Jaffna (2018-2019), member of the Governing Board, National Institute of Education (2018-2019), Chairman of Academic Affairs Board, National Institute of Education (2018-2019).
