Democracy and Democratisation: Conceptual Trends and Imaginations

Join this thought-provoking short course exploring the evolving ideas and challenges surrounding democracy in today’s world. Led by Prof. Shalini Randeria, President and Rector Emerita of the Central European University, the course will delve into key themes such as:

 The BCIS, building on its landmark publication Democracy and Democratisation in Sri Lanka (2023) and recent dialogues on inequality and democracy, will host a seminar series in November 2025 with Prof. Shalini Randeria, Rector Emerita of CEU. Her lectures will explore global challenges such as soft authoritarianism, ethnonationalism, gender and minority rights, and the erosion of academic freedom, linking these themes to Sri Lanka’s democratic struggles and the crucial role of universities in sustaining democracy
