The Inauguration Ceremony of the Academic programmes in International Relations of the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS), Colombo was held on Monday, March 22, 2022, at the Olympus Auditorium, BCIS from 9.30 a.m. to 12.00.
Approximately 150 students who enrolled for the Certificate, Diploma, Higher Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma programmes in International Relations participated at this event.
His Excellency Gopal Baglay, the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka graced the event as the Chief Guest and addressed the gathering on ‘India-Sri Lanka Relations: Challenges and Opportunities.’
Dr. Athula Samarakoon, Senior Lecturer at the Open University Colombo and a member of the BCIS Academic Board shared his teaching experiences at the BCIS. He also made remarks on the significance of learning International Relations as a discipline in the present global context. Mr. Shamilka Ranasinghe, a BCIS alumnus also shared his enriching experiences as a BCIS student.
Ambassador Sumith Nakandala, Senior Director of the BCIS/ Mr. Wasantha Manthripala CAO/ Registrar of the BCIS also addressed the gathering.
Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies was incepted in 1974, and is a pioneer in disseminating knowledge on International Relations, Diplomacy and Foreign Policy, and attracts students from various sectors such as Media, Tourism, Armed Forces and Health.
